Lobster Newburg

Across the globe, Lobster Newburg may very well be one of the most recognized seafood dishes. Created by Ben Wenburg, who was a sea captain operating between New York and Cuba, and shown to Charles Delmonico in 1876, the famed lobster dish was originally called Lobster la Wenburg. After a disagreement, Delmonico continued selling the popular dish at his restaurant under the name Lobster Newburg, although some refer to it as Lobster Delmonico.

What made such a splash back in 1876? Besides being a new way to cook lobster, the flavors from the cream and sherry added the luxury that the dish is still famous for today. At Allen Brothers, we have taken that traditional dish and given it our own extravagant flair. Yet, we remain true to the original technique and flavor found in the original Lobster Newburg.

We hand pick only the finest cold water lobsters tails, cutting the meat into pieces before slowly cooking it in butter. Next, we add mushrooms, cream, and sherry to create a lush casserole. Topped with toast points, this dish takes on a whole new life, which you can experience right from your own kitchen.

The heat-and-serve Lobster Newburg casserole serves two, but you might want to savor it all by yourself. As one of the classic decadent dishes, you can serve it alone or accompany it with pasta, rice, risotto, or just about anything. No matter how you serve it, you'll agree that Lobster Newburg deserves its spot as one of the world's most-loved seafood dishes.
