Special seasonal side dishes that put the “Thanks!” in Thanksgiving

Sweet potatoes, yams, squash… those fabulously sweet, plump orange beauties are staples on the Thanksgiving table. Sure, you could serve the same old candied yams for Thanksgiving this year, but why not discover a surprise new favorite? Here’s what’s going to be on my family’s holiday table next week:

Chipotle sweet potatoes. Is there a more perfect Thanksgiving side dish? The subtle sweetness of the sweet potatoes, highlighted with a touch of brown sugar and a heavenly pecan streusel topping, plays so nicely with that spicy, smoky kick from chipotle peppers—and brings a whole new thrill to the Thanksgiving spread.

Stuffed acorn squash. The turkey may always steal the show on the Thanksgiving table, but the bird will get a little run for its money this year thanks to this made-for-the-holidays Allen Brothers specialty: a plump acorn squash stuffed with a colorful mix of acorn and butternut squash, along with dried cranberries, corn, and onion, drizzled with maple syrup and spiced with cardamom, ginger, and cinnamon. The presentation is as alluring as all those intense, sweet, and spicy fall flavors. Bonus: Any vegetarians at your Thanksgiving dinner can make a main course out of one of these stunners!

The best part of ordering the chipotle sweet potatoes and the stuffed acorn squash for Thanksgiving? You guessed it: They’re both ready-to-eat, Heat and Serve Allen Brothers specialties, so you can scratch those other time-consuming side dishes right off your holiday to-do list.

Happy Turkey Day!
